Ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents have unique features that make them desirable for biomedical applications – high solubility and miscibility, low melting temperature, and high tunability in particular. For example, they are suitable to help the dissolution of poorly soluble drugs and enhance permeability through physiological barriers to boost therapeutic efficacy.

More than 90 peptide therapeutics have reached the global market for a wide range of therapeutic areas and they become increasingly valuable. Despite the success of recent peptide blockbusters such as semaglutide and tirzepatide, the advent of drug delivery technologies becomes highly desirable.

Therapeutic proteins/antibodies are also mostly administered via the parenteral route. Although various non-invasive delivery systems are being developed for oral delivery, there remains much room for improvement, especially on low oral bioavailability.

Harnessing the power of ionic liquids, we are developing novel drug delivery platforms to overcome this problem. Our proprietary OralionBio™ technology enables the delivery system to facilitate microenvironmental modifications of APIs and provide with more superior permeability compared with existing enhancers.
